2010 AWARDS NIGHT
By Tom Ambrose @ 10:58 PM :: 82 Views

The Limerick Desmond Schoolboys/Girls League held its fourth annual Awards Night at The Gables, Athea, on Saturday June 5th and again it was a resounding success. We had twenty two league divisions from U/8 Division 4 up to and including Girls U/16 Division 1. This was the first year we had players of the year awards for the girls and I must say the standard displayed over the season was very high indeed. There was also an awards for the U/12 and U/14 Inter League players of the year, Kyle Cotter from Granagh Utd picked up the U/12 Inter League award while James Naughton from Creeves Celtic got the U/14 Inter League award.

As well as the players of the year award winners it was also another successful year on the inter league front with the Limerick Desmond U/12 side winning the Munster Inter League with a two nil win over Waterford on a never to be forgotten day in Clounreask. This was followed up by an All Ireland semi final win over a strong Galway side which set us up for an All Ireland Final against DDSL where on the day we were rather unlucky to lose three one as all those who played gave everything on a very warm day in Dublin. On Saturday night Limerick Desmond Chairman Seamus Kelly presented the panel with their Munster Final winners medals and the All Ireland runners up medals while manager Ger Costelloe presented the Limerick Desmond player of the match in the All Ireland Final to Ballingarrys Mikey Morrissey. Ger thanked all the players for their fantastic dedication over the two years they have being together whether it be training or at matches and gave a big thanks to the parents as it was them that took the boys to training very early on Sunday mornings. He also thanked the league for their support and assistance for the past two years that culminated in this years Munster success as well as reaching the All Ireland Final.

The league, in recognition of the fantastic success that this has brought made a presentation to manager Ger Costelloe and his backroom staff of Kevin Clifford, Brian Lawlor and Tom Ambrose in appreciation of all they have done over in getting us to this stage. This appreciation was repeated by the players and their parents who made presentations to the coaches who would like to thank both players and parents for this.
