Athea Utd got off to a good start when they came from behind to win five one away to Newcastle West. James Cussen gave West an early lead with a fine finish to the top corner but by half time Danial Daly had the sides level. Fifteen minutes into the second half Ryan Carroll put Athea ahead for the first time while a Maurice Hayes hat trick in the last fifteen minutes, including a penalty gave the visitors the points. Kilcornan got the defence of their title off to a good start with a two nil win at home to Abbeyfeale Utd, Jack Stokes having them one up at half time with Shane Costelloe getting the second after the interval. Newcastle West Rovers are also off the mark after a two one win at home to Ballingarry. They took the lead with an own goal from a James Guina corner but right on half time Ballingarry got in for an equalizer however Rovers regained the lead with an Eoghan Normoyle goal and they held on for a narrow win.
U/16 Div 2
Creeves Celtic hit the ground running with a six nil win at home to Breska Rovers. They were two goals to the good at half time through James Naughton and Kevin Meade while in the second period Meade got his second with the remaining goals coming from James O’Connor (2) and Sean Stackpool. Meanwhile in Knockdown goals from Eddie Sweeney and Con Mulvihill helped Killeaney overcome the Broadford Utd challenge by the odd goal in three.
U/16 Div 3
St Itas are the pacesetters at this stage with full points from their two games played. Their opening win came at home to Glantine on a two one scoreline with goals from Joseph Casey and Peter Mulcahy with Andrew O’Sullivan on the mark for Glantine. The saints made it two from two on Saturday with another home win, this time against Bally Rovers. After a scoreless opening half Joseph Casey gave them the lead with Damien Brouders late double consolidating the win for Itas. Adare Utd and Shannonside are in a tie for second place after they drew their game one all on Saturday having both won their opening games two nights previous. Adare won their game convincingly against Pallaskenry with goals from Nicky Derwin (3), Jack English (2), Christopher Carey (2) and Richard Costello giving them an eight two win. Shannonside were five nil winners over visitors Glin Rovers having led three nil at the break, Dale Fitzgerald with a brace and Stephen Carrig netting in the first half while after the break Shane Long made it four nil before Fitzgerald completed his hat trick from the penalty spot. Best for Shanonnside was skipper Dale Fitzgerald. On Saturday Shannonside hosted Adare and it was the visitors who led through Nicky Derwin from a corner while David Clifford ensured a share of the spoils for Shannonside in the second half with Scott Fitzgerald the player of the match for the hosts. |
