AWARDS NIGHT A HUGH SUCCESS
By Tom Ambrose @ 8:39 PM :: 308 Views

LDSL AWARDS NIGHT IS TOP CLASS

The Limerick Desmond Schoolboys/Girls League held its Fifth Annual Awards Night at The Gables, Athea last Saturday night and again it was a resounding success. Chairman David Naughton opened the proceedings and thanked everybody for attending and as we had a busy night ahead of us said we would get straight down to business. With twenty six divisions to cover as well as the three inter league presentations and also the U/11 tournament which Limerick Desmond won a few weeks ago it was going to be a long night.

First up were the Limerick Desmond U/11 Academy Squad who were presented with their medals for winning the recent Quadrangular Tournament which was held in Abbeyfeale with the other leagues involved being Cork, LimerickCounty an Wicklow. After this Chairman David Naughton and Vice-Chairman John Fennessy, on behalf of the LDSL made presentations to Noel Allen and Anthony Quinn, two of our longstanding referees both of whom are retiring at the end of this season. Both have had a long association with soccer at all levels in the Desmond League, from schoolboys and schoolgirls up to junior level and all of The Limerick Desmond Schoolboys/Girls League Committee wish Anthony and Noel the very best in their future away from refereeing.

Next up we had the players of the year for the twenty six league divisions, including the six girls divisions and this was followed by the inter league players of the year at U/12, U/14 and U/15. Kyle Hayes from Kildimo Utd picked up the U/12 Inter League award, David Connolly of Adare Utd the U/14 award while Shane Costelloe from Kilcornan got the U/15 Inter League award.

There was a special presentation to Tom Ambrose who has done trojan work for the league in his capacity as Registrar, Secretary and now as Fixtures Secretary with Tom being presented with a lovely piece of glass as well as a Liverpool jersey signed by all the Liverpool players.
